Need Help With Savage 112V Ejection

I recently purchased a Savage 112V single shot (1975-1977) in 22-250 that extracts a case fine but will not eject it; the case drops off the nose of the bolt as soon as the case exits the chamber. Here's the fun part - I tried the extractor, extractor spring and steel ball in another Savage 112V 22-250 bolt and they eject a case just fine in the other rifle. Anyone know the fix?

Thanks!

The problem isn't the extractor if it pulls the case from the chamber and doesn't eject it, it's the ejector.

Is the ejector sticking out of the face of the bolt? If it is can you easily push it back into the bolt head with your finger? If it isn't can it be moved at all by pushing on its face with a punch or ball point pen tip?

It's possible (likely in fact) that the original owner of this rifle disabled the ejector so that it wouldn't fling cases into the grass or wherever else. My live varmint rifles with pin ejectors are all disabled so that they won't eject a fired case. Since I've never been attacked by an enraged bull prairie dog I've never needed a follow up shot that was very fast. Picking a case off the bolt face is easier than rooting around in the grass or dirt.

Larry - thank you for your response and suggestions!! I have been working on the problem with the help of Bruce Thom at BAT actions. The ejector is functional with plenty of movement and spring tension. The distance from the extractor to the other side of the bolt face is about .004" greater on the problem rifle than on another one like it that I have - the extractor is not holding the case until the ejector can push it out the ejection port. I measured Rem. case rims and W-W rims - the W-W rims are .001-.002" greater in diameter - the W-W cases that are .002" greater eject sometimes, the Rem. cases never eject. I'll try a new extractor and a larger ball bearing under the extractor - we'll see...

I agree with you about limiting ejection - I usually lighten the ejector spring so the case will just drop out of the action.

Thanks again.

Chris
