I have recently bought a parubian mauser action that I have had squared and trued. I bought a 1:8 twist lilja barrel for it chambered in 6mm ackley improved. All i need is a stock and scoped mounts and a scope. I have heard alot about companys like mcmillian stocks and i was thinkin about either goin with a nightforce benchrest scope or a fixed powered leupold. I dont know which one? any advise? Also I was curious can you buy 6mm ackely improved brass or do u get 6mm remington brass and fireform it to the chamber? I would greatly appreciate and advise. like i said i am very new to benchrest and really want to get started. thanks

What exactly is it?

A "parubian" Mauser, which is something that an Imbecile like me never herd off.

Or a "Peruvian" Mauser, which is something that even an Imbecile like me knows, but wouldn't recomend it to use for serious long range applications.

its a peruvian i typed the wrong thing...its not just that thought the action has had alot of work done to it. Nothing is factory...its been totally worked over.

A Mauser action is not exactly the best but they can be made to work. Most of the early Benchrest rifles were built on Mauser actions. Real accuracy is going to come from the three "B"s. Barrel, bullets and bedding.

My own opinion is that i would not put a lot of $$$ into that first rifle unless it is $$$ that can be recovered when you decide to move on to a better rifle. Things like a scope, etc, are moveable but action work is not and a stock may have to have considerable work done on it to switch from Mauser bedding to some other action. Like wise a barrel.

Anyway, the 6mm AI is a good choice for a first cartridge. I believe that factory brass is now available from somebody (can't remember who) but you can always make your own.

Have you attended a match?? That's always good advice for a beginner. Not necessarily to shoot but to watch, listen, and ask a lot of questions. You'll learn more after seeing one match than you ever will on Forums.

no i have not been to a match yet. I have been waiting to get my rifle finished. Its hard to find people to talk to about benchrest because there are so few around here that actually do it. I have been trying to ask as many questions as i can so i can be ready when i go to the range...or at least have a idea of what and how i need things. So what are some things that i need to be ready for when i get to the range?

Go to a match look what people are using for each component of their gear, rifle and ammo. I'm sure they will be more than willing to help if you are seriuos about shooting. It will save you money and frustration in the long run.
You didn't say what range you would be competing at?

The range that I am going to be trying to compete at is the hardrock 1000yrd range in auburn,AL

It will be a "tough" start, but

Who can say, that one day you can't be a World Champion. Shoot and learn and always try to
