Have a horror story in having a custom barrel installed on my Winchester 52D. They butchered the job so I asked them to re-install the original 52D heavy bbl and they butchered THAT barrel, as well. Now I need a good original 52D heavy bbl. and a competent smith to remove old bbl. and install the replacement. Doesn't seem like too much to ask, does it?
Feel free to email or pm me.
Many Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about your delema and I'm sorry I can't help you with a barrel but am curious as to how they could screw up putting the original barrel back on.

Jeff

I think my grandma could screw on a factory barrel for a 52-D. Who and how did they possibly botch this easy job?

Send the whole mess to Gene Davis. He will sort it out, guaranteed.

A 52 Smith

Has to be toddtaylor1040@yahoo.com
I was in his shop yesterday and he showed me a 52D like new that will be
getting his attention very soon.
Todd is stocking Lilja blanks, for that fast turn around. His 52 work down here :) speaks volumes about his work

need Win 52D bbl and COMPETENT 'smith

I lived in Iowa at the time and my dealer shipped it to a well-known shop in a state to the north whose name I won't share on a public forum.
As to HOW this all was screwed up wasn't clear to me but my gun came back missing the custom bbl. and about 1-1/2" was removed from the original bbl. chamber end. There was a comment from the shop to the effect of "wouldn't chamber a round"(I'd been shooting it already) so maybe they weren't used to match chambers? I think I could manage to seat a 6mm round in there now. Anyway, the custom bbl. wasn't returned and when I asked for it back, nobody, including the owner, would speak to me.
So, I want a replacement 52D barrel to put the gun back to 1st class stock condition. I'll follow up on your leads and thanks so much for all the feedback.
By the way, this firm was highly recommended to me by my local gun dealer. I lived in a one-horse town at the time. Under those circumstances (pre-internet) you ride the horse that's available and I followed my dealer's suggestion.

I bought a set of factory 40X extractors from a place in Minnesota called Ahlman's, hmmm? Thanks, Douglas

So far I've followed up on all the suggestions and no luck.
Still need a Win 52D heavy FACTORY bbl. in excellent shape and a smith to do the take-off of the old one and install of the replacement.
I'm near Austin, Tx., now, if that helps anything.
Thanks,
bullgun

Check with

the top rimfire smiths. Bill Myers,Butch Hogiston,Gene Davis, Brian Volkner and others as they may have a takeoff bbl.
You may want to consider selling yours as a action and buying a 52D complete there have been a few here for sale.

If you are going to change the barrel anyway, why not install a chrome moly barrel and have it blued. Have it machined to the same deminsions as stock. I've purchased a couple of chrome moly match barrels from Lilja.

There are a ton of good gunsmiths here on this board.

STILL looking Win 52D original Heavy bbl.

Am still in need if this bbl. I could do a replacement but would much prefer an original, properly marked Winchester bbl if a GOOD one can be found. Come on all you smiths, someone has to have a good take off lying around in the shop, no?
Thanks.
email or pm me.

You'd sure think so, but not too many 52's are turned into benchrest rifles, except Kathy. I've got a 40X barrel sitting here, but there's prolly lots of them. Thanks, Douglas
