Well, I've inherited a beautiful handbuilt benchrest rifle built by my dad in the mid '60s. After his passing, somehow the bolt disappeared. One thing I have learned: don't lose a bolt from a Rem 722. Anybody know where I might find one? Thanks for your advice!

Bolts are not meant to be swapped, from gun to gun indiscriminately, even within the same model of rifle. That said, I think the only functional difference between a 722 bolt and one from a 700 is that the 700 has an anti bind rail groove in the right hand lug. So you should be able to use a 700 bolt in the 722, but not the other way around. But remember, just because it slides into the receiver and feels good, does NOT mean that it "fits". Any bolt swap should be done by a qualified gunsmith.
