Neck tension

Guys,
What comes first the chicken or the egg? When I load for my 30BR I load so I am in the lands with the bullet. Now if you load this way does neck tension have any effect on your bullet. I would think that before that bullet starts to move down the bore the neck of the case would be expanded enough that it would not effect it. I know that if you load off the lands that neck tension will effect bullet travel. Does anyone have information on this subject?

John,

When the bullet is seated out to engage the lands, the amount of neck tension will affect how far "into the lands" the bullet will be pushed when the bolt is closed. Naturally, the more the tension, the farther into the lands the bullet will be forced upon chambering a round. Some barrels like more tension/jam than others, so play with neck tension to find what your barrel likes best.

I'm in the process of having a 30BR built by Stevens Accuracy. I've researched a lot of material on the the cartridge and have found a wealth of information available. I read the articles on the 6BR and 30BR at: http://www.6mmbr.com/index.html. Why the 6BR? Because it's the case I'm going to be necking up, and I was looking for info on primer hole size, and determining which additional tools I might need, if any, for working with that specific case.

Then I plugged in seperately, the word Nyhus [ran a search], Robinett [ran a search], and Entrekin [ran a search] within Search [next to New Posts above], went to Search Forums, "Show Posts," and read every post dealing with the 30BR. The info is available. I found it, copied it, downloaded it to a word document, then saved it to my Benchrest folder for future rereading and referencing. Art :)
