today, what is the trend in neck clearance. i am spec'ing out a new reamer
and wondering what is being done today. let me hear your thoughts.
thanks

In an article in the Benchrest Shooting Primer, the great Ed Watson,in his writings, said he used a neck clearance with .001" "total" clearance.
Ed Watson is still top of the leader board in the southeast and he has not been with us for a long time. I use .0015" 'total" clearance with total satisfaction....no problems whatsoever. Good luck and stay safe.

It's pretty arbitrary to the discipline. Guy's I talk to that shoot short porch BR,
and jam bullets will keep a tighter neck clearance. My .030" free bore rifle, I ream
for .001" per side......The LR rifles with .190" to .240" tight free bores, my reamers
are .015" per side on a no turn neck. These are my methods I picked up over the years in relation to how much sized grip I want on a particular bullet. But that is
another can of worms.......Try getting ahold of Alex Wheeler and pick his brain. I'm
thinking your wanting something more appropriate for LR and your particular
cartridge.
