Neck Clearance - How Much?

I don't know whether there is any clear answer on this but what are you finding to be a workable neck clearance (i.e. difference between neck diameter of loaded round vs chamber neck diameter)?

I keep hearing stories about people running to tight neck issues (I suspect it relates to not enough clearance to allow consistent bullet release shot to shot) but no one seems to be able to suggest how much is enough, how much is too much and how little is too little.

I was thinking .002" (.001" per side) on a 6.5mm case would be fine but I don't really know. I cannot see that being too sloppy, but is it on the verge of being too tight?

Any thoughts or info on this would be appreciated.

I try to hold to .002-inch neck clearance. But you have to be careful cutting it that close! I fireform my new cases with the bulk bullets that you can buy in the 100 count bags. They sometimes run as much as .001 inch oversize! That would only give .0005 inch clearance on each side!

Neck Clearance

For NRA LR/HP around .003 total is about the minimum. If you cannot slip a bullet into a fired case (before sizing) you eventually will have re-turn your necks or put up with doughnuts..............:D

Seated Rounds

Had my new 6BR chambered with a 265 neck. I turned to 261 and a seated bullet takes it out to 263. The gun shoots great and I have yet to have a problem.
