Neat Little trick!!

I stubled across a neat little trick i would like to share. Maybe some of you fellas already know this but i sure didnt until i tried it. Ok, I had my FL size die set up for a different barrel other than the barrel i thought i had it set up for. When i sized my first piece of brass and measured i had pushed the shoulders back .004 to much. I thought oh crap! I only have 20 pieces of brass for this barrel currently and i needed all 20 for the shoot i am attending in the am. So, I needed all my brass to be properly sized. So i thought to myself how can i fix this without having to drive all the way out to the farm tonight? So i thought about it a bit and deceided i would try to pop a primer off in the case just to see if it had enough umpff to push the shoulders back out to chamber size. Well to make a long and boring story short, It did have enough umpff to push the shoulders forward, thus allowing me to re size the case properly. This might not seem like much, but i found it very helpful. I am really picky about all i do and i needed all these cases to be the same before i left the house in the AM. I live in town so i cant just open the back door and shoot the darn thing. I did warn all the members in my family that they were about to hear a small pop and not to be alarmed. My wife grumbled a little but she is a pretty good gal and was ok with it. The cat However wasnt. I think that silly ass cat hit the floor Joice when the primer went off. it was funny to say the least. So if you ever push your shoulders back to far on a case, just blow it back out with the primer. it works quite well. I even checked a second just to be sure. It worked! Lee

No need. Nothing down here in this dirty old basement but me and the cat!! To be real honest, the blast isnt loud at all. heck i got an air rifle that makes more noise. I just thought this was a neat discovery. I wasn't sure a primer could even accomplish this. Lee

I was shooting with a guy, last year. Group tournament. He switched barrels or something.
His cases came out sooted up half way. He forgot to put a shim in. But, he had the smallest group. He's looking at these cases and going WTF. So he does it again. Can't figure it out. Cases all black.....But, again shot the smallest group. So he shows me this. And some other guys. We all say the head space is wrong. he does it again. Got a really small group. Range master comes out. And says hey that's some damn good shooting. Guy says yea. But, look at the cases.
Range master says fix it or you are DQ'ed. It was a safety violation.
Gases leaking by the case might hurt someone. Case failure......
But, he had some nice small groups. WE were all amazed that it worked. Totally against what we are told to make a small group. But, it worked.

Lee, does it have enough umph to fire form?
I have fireformed in the house using a roll of insulation and pistol powder with wax.

Zippy, what else can you tell us about this? Any more light to shed? That is amazing and gives me something to think outside the box on.

Hey Vern. Not sure. the guy was marveling. that everything we are told to get small groups. Was out the window with what he was doing. By mistake, of course.
The guy is a machinist. Those special guys that measure stuff in .0001". He shoots H-322. His equipment is pretty old. Said he has been shooting BR for 20 some yrs.
But, ya know. He said he shoots every Sunday. Rain, shine, or snow. Middle of winter, I pre load. This guy loads at the range. Could be -10.
So maybe he is one of those guys that puts a lot of time in the sport. And we don't see that. Maybe, he can make anything shoot.

Lee, it'll be quieter next time if you.................

stick the muzzle in the furnace, but not when its runnin', though.

Kinda dissipates through the ducting and the grates.
Turns the house into a great big suppressor.

If you were outside and looked, it would look like the house just gave a big sigh.

ah yup.

Brian are you talking about poping primers or fire forming with pistol powder?
