NBRSA vs IBRSA What gives?

Since I'm new to BR I don't know all the politics so I'm hoping some of the old timers can help.

This sport is relatively small, especially on the west coast, can someone tell me the purpose of having two sanctioning bodies? Are we outcasts?

What gives?

Don't forget Karl Hunstiger and Gale McMillan in AZ, Ed Eckoff in CA without whom there probably would not be 600 yard NBRSA tournaments, and the guys in the PNW who got things started up there, whose names I do not know.

Rich, I don't like to refer to it as "politics". There are different organizations, with slightly different rules. The same as you'll find in any other sports.

Thank you Ray

After last weeks match I over heard some stuff about the different organizations and it sounded as if there was differences of opinion on numerous things.
I can't and wont speculate about the conversation because I wasn't part of it, I was just hoping to meet and compete against the many wonderful people I read and hear about.

The sport is so small it really surprises me that we don't have bigger turn outs at our matches.

My curiosity is strictly because I love the sport.

I figured next months match would have more in attendance because of the two factors you mentioned. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissatisfied with the amount of shooters at our matches or the NBRSA. I was just curious why everyone didn't belong to same sanctioning body.

I guess I've been into racing for so long I was expecting a points system kinda like the NHRA. Maybe the shooter got points for lowest overall agg throughout the year or something like that.

Do either of the Organizations do something like this?

You have to excuse me I'm new :D

The IBS has the Shooter Of the Year (SOY) program.

Rich, I have often wondered about IBS and the Williamsport sanctioning bodies, I feel that we have it pretty good here, shooting year around as Lynn says is possible. There are alot of ranges that do not have such abilities. The more you shoot the matches the more competitive you get. Its pretty hard to beat the crowd that does this, most share thier opinions freely and its a constant learning curve that makes us strive to improve. The 600 yard Nationals that I have made it to are of my best memories, lots of good guys, parking at the range listening to the coyotes and just bs-ing
I hope you can keep your son interested as the young crowd needs brought in to keep the sport alive. Take care, Ron Tilley

My sons 6.5x284 arrived last night, if it shoots half as good as it looks we might all be in trouble.
I can't say enough good things about Jim Borden and his rifles, a reasonable price and waiting time (4 weeks) for an outstanding weapon.

Were load testing at Concord and Two Rocks (Petaluma) this weekend, we should be shooting bug holes within 20 rounds. ;)

Thanks to everyone that posted in this thread.
