NBRSA For Charles E

On the Competition Only forum you asked what my strategy was cooncerning my posts about the nbrsa ruining the 2010 1000 yard nationals.
As you already know what the 4 nbrsa officials did to ruin the match I won't re-post it here.
The strategy is to see it doesn't happen again and that future matches are actually run by following the rules. This seems like a simple thing to do on its face but is actually quite difficult in the real world on the westcoast.
You see out here we have a bunch of shooters who are very old who just want to shoot while they are still breathing who rarely win anything. They really don't care one way or the other who wins or how the game is played so rules don't really matter to them.

We also have the young shooters just starting out that have read a few of the magazine articles so they recognise a name or two and get a little bit star struck while shooting. They want to win with there hunting rifle in 308 that shoots well but will either upgrade or quit rather quickly. They tend to worry about the wins and records more anddon't know or care to know about the rules unless they get caught doing something wrong or have an equipment issue. In a nutshell they just want to shoot and don't want to look bad while doing it.

Now we come down to the last group which is actually smaller in size. These tend to be the more competitive types a tad older than the just starting out shooters that have been upgrading all along and acually learning from each and every mistake they make. These guys tend to know what they did wrong and won't let it happen a second time. These are the sports up and coming tigers if you will. They see what is going on around them but figure its not worth ruffling any feathers.

We now come to a very tiny minority of shooters who feel they are the monarchs. They don't promote anything they don't help anyone they don't put up wind flags they just want admiration from the rest of the shooters while returning nothing to the sport. They feel that if the wind is howling they belong on the first relay. While they do a lousy job of pulling the targets they will howl like a comanchee if there targets are not done to there exact liking no matter the reason. They have a couple of the younger guys spellbound who think they are as close to nirvana as they will ever get. They do as they please and if they are not following the rules it doesn't matter as they are who thety are and nobody is to question them on anything.

We now come back to the strategy part of the equation.
We never draw benches out in the open we assign them.
At this years Nationals the benches will now be drawn out in the open for the first time and hopefully that will take place. We shall see.

The great one who has only shot off the benches on the left side of the range who refuses any/all the rules and swaps relays with his flunky in order to shoot better.
Well this year after being called out on the internet by yours truly he won't be attending the match.Again I don't believe this for a minute as he is truly a shameless human being but we shall see.

Last year when our match director had surgery scheduled on monday and the other 3 nbrsa people in attendance had jobs to go too and weren't shooting well they solely cancelled the 1000 yard nationals as it wasn't going to get in the way of what they wanted to do.
Well this year I am thinking that if it rains and they have completed 7 out of the 9 relays it will actually follow the there rules and get carried over onto monday.Again we shall see.
I am betting we will have a national champion in 2011 but again lets wait and see what takes place.
Complacency is whats killing us out here not the bashing by a single shooter and if you revisit the competition forum you can spot them like a pink elephant in a field of grey mice.

Lynn, I am not a NBRSA member, but if I were I would truly applaud your efforts to clear the air of all the horse manure the membership has had to endure. The only range I ever attended that was straight up fair as the day is long is Piedmont. They use a bingo cage to assign benches right there out in the open. Our local match director is the worst. He and I do not get along and typically that puts me on 2nd relay. He is old, grouchy, never missed the X ring type, retired, and am hopeful of change. It is in the air, and I`m ready. Good luck loostening the grip, and I hope you get full support from the membership of the NBRSA as your efforts will surely help everyone associated. Sounds like a tough battle, but hang in there it will be worth it.

You are right about the tiny minority, all clubs have them. But don't you guys have computer drawing for benches. Thats the only fare way to do it. In Williamsport you're rotation for the ten matches you get to shoot off each bench once. And I would like to say I for one don't mind giving a new shooter a break, but just that once. Don't make a mistake after you've been shooting five or six years, and still expect a break. So put as much into the sport as you want out of it.

At our local club matches we draw colored poker chips and the only problem we have ever had was with the same rotten apple who ruined the 2010 Nationals. He swapped his chip with his flunky and set a record shooting on the first relay.

This year the club has said the bench draw will be out in the open and that is exactly what we need.I am hopeful the nbrsa will make this a rule so future shooters can get a even playing field. We shall see.
As of now the nationals according to the rule book lets the club assign the shooters a bench and nothing is ever out in the open.

I will send you a PM after work on tuesday.
