NBRSA 600yd Target Rule Change

As of Jan.1,2009 all ranges shooting NBRSA 600 yard matches shall only post one Record Target at a time . This rule applies to all NBRSA 600YD Matches whether they have pits or use clays for sighting purposes. This change is to2008-page 70,paragraphs 3&4. What really disturbs me about the change as it applies to the Ranges without pits like UNSC . The target crew must be behind the firing line until the cease fire is given. At this time they are instructed to proceed to the target area to pull and post targets. The ability to post more than one target at a time reduces the waiting period and inhances the scoring of the record targets. I personally believe that those responsible for this change are totally unfamiliar with 600 yd ranges which use clays for sighting in purposes!!! My Rant Re. Carl Hansen

Targets...

HI Carl and Lou,,,,there is another issue that I feel shuld be adressed....at the 600yd nats. last wk. one of my targets was scored as 21.1 inches!!!!!!...and it really was 2.1",,,,,and needless to say 20 inches is QUITE A BIT at a "B"enchrest match.....I saw the group measurement on the stat sheet as posted and had no idea that it was WRONG,,because the targets are not allowed to be viewed untill the end of the match on day 3,,,,,soooo I just figgered that I had a shot or 2 or 3 off the paper,,but,,,when I/we was allowed to see my target ,,,I noticed the HUGE difference.....
I am just saying that we shuld be allowed to see our targets at the end of each day of competition,,,Does this make sense??? Correct me if you feel I am wrong.....I am asking --not angry --just confused that such a procedure is in place,,,,at short range (100-200) events the targets are openly displayed for all to see....which avoids obvious errors and allows for corrections to be made on an ongoing basis....I was about to just throw my targets in the car and go home.....and as luk wuld have it....I noticed it...Roger

Lou,the problem is the time delay between record targets. Under the new rule the target crew has to drive to the target area to pull and post a new target. then retun to the firing line .The IBS 600 yd rules allow mutiple record target posting on the target frame. It is interesting that the IBS also allow multiple record targets to be posted on frames on Ranges that have pits.

Target Reviewing

Lou And Roger
I think we are not handing out the targets for a reason? We are given a hour to go over the targets at the end of the match to look for any errors. In Rogers case the decimal place was put in the wrong spot on the printout.
If we use the Karl Hunstiger scoring sheets I handed out at the match it should let you know your score and group size within reason each day so when day 3 arrives you have a pretty handle on what your targets should say.
2 years ago I was pulling pit duty for my father and had him down for two 98's and the official sheet read one 98 and one 88.At the end of the 3rd day he already knew the target was to be disputed and it took 2 minutes to correct.
In point blank do the guys get to handle the targets or just look at them on a wall? I ask only because the 600 and 1,000 yard targets are quite large and we don't have a way of hanging them.

Edit
We only hold one day shoots except for the nationals each year which is naturaly 3 days.During the nationals the targets are placed in wooden slots in the pits by relay and bench number. With 50 shooters we would have 200 targets being reviewed each day at the end of the shoot. They would then need to be recollected and put back into there holders. On the following day it would repeat except we would need to seperate them by day.On the 3rd day it would repeat again. Our scorers are both accomplished shooters who don't compete in benchrest as they prefer F-Class and do this out of the goodness of there hearts.
