My friends:

Over on the centerfire forum I started a thread: "Threaded Muzzle, Calfee" I think is the title....

Anyway, the engineers are working out the problems on that thread but I would like to make an observation about a test I run for that thread...

If you go to it, the second or third page, I show a test target.....the circles I used to shoot at are 1/2 inch, the same OD as an ARA 100 scoring ring...

This test was fired with a barrel with a hugh buldge in the bore about 12 inches from the chamber.....

I took the four bottom groups, and, the worst group from the top four, and the best I can figure those 25 shots make an ARA score of either 2175 or 2225.

The only shot in question is the left shot, middle circle of the three on the bottom test.....it plugs a 100.....a 2225 target.....but say we count it a 50...that makes a 2175 target......

I'm headed to the range to test a rifle.....I got into working on rimfire rifles a couple weeks ago.....don't think I'm going to like it though.....anyway, I just may make someone an offer about this defective barrel......someone that would like to experiment......no charge......let me study the details a little...

More later, your friend, Bill Calfee.......Oh, can any of you bring that target to this thread.....? If not, I undersatnd as I have no idea how to....bc

Oh, and if you look at that target, have I scored it OK? bc

Hi Bill,

Been working on rimfires rifle for a couple fo weeks now have ya? ;)
I think it would be safe to say you have been working on them for at least a couple of months now.... You're not fooling anyone. :D

Is this defective barrel a barrel that you had installed at one point in time? If so, I would love to study it!

Have a good night!

My friends, Thanks

Friend Don: Thank you for posting the picture....

My friends, it's a quarter to six.....I baked some cornbread muffins last night and I'm having some cornbread crumbled up in sweet milk while I look at the forum.......It's kinda cold but no wind so I'm going to be down at the range at daylight....was nasty shooting conditions last evening....

I've read on this forum that rimfire benchrest shooting is dying......not around here it ain't.....a lot of excitement about this year.....

When I came in from the range last night my answering machine was full...folks volunteering to help with the experiment....and I ain't even explained what the experiment is yet.......no more call please....thanks to those who did...

OK, here's what I'm up against.....I'd like to see what that defective barrel would do in a registered match....is it truly competitive, of course not...

That barrel confirms something I've know for years....a loose place don't hurt too bad if it ain't at or near the muzzle......tight places are the killers..

I'm going to cut the threads off the muzzle and re-crown the barrel....the bad part is I've slugged the bore and I ain't as tickled with the spot an inch back from the crown....see, when I fit this barrel some years ago I crowned it at the tightest and roundest place in the bore.....but I ain't got no choice as the thing for sure won't shoot in a bucket now with them threads on the muzzle.....

I'm going to try to get someone locally, who has a Turbo, to let me fit the barrel and have them shoot it in a registered match.....I'm just curious...

If I can't get someone locally, I'll start with the first persone who left their name and number on my machine........If I have to go this route, the person will need to pay shipping both ways and furnish a muzzle device that I can bore to fit the barrel.....when they're done, if they can have the original barrel put back on locally, fine, if not, and they're willing to pay the shipping both ways, they can send it back to me and I'll put the original barrel back on and send them the test barrel to keep......I've already X'd out my name on the barrel.........

Thanks again Don...

Oh, one other thing....I should be running my tests on the RvA Muzzle Device very shortly.....when I do, I'll post on My Sherrill's thread the results....

Your friend, Bill Calfee
