Muzzle brakes are legal on 600 & 1,0000 yard light guns. When you're setting off 75 grains of Rel-22 behind a 200 gain bullet, they're nice to have.
But 1,000 yard guns have about a 30-inch barrel, which hangs off the bench a long way. When I switch & shoot point-blank BR, I'm always amazed at the noise & concussion, because those short barrels are so close to the bench (& the benches are closer together). Putting a brake on one of those, like your 22-incher, won't get you many friends.
Fortunately, you don't need one. I shoot my .30-BR free recoil. It's on the edge, to be sure. A Hunter-size case in a 10-pound rifle is a bit harder to take, but those guys shoot them free recoil too -- more powder, slightly heavier bullet.
Use those threads on the barrel (originally for the brake) for a tuner.
