Muzzle brakes for heavy gun

are muzzle breaks allowed on the 600 yard events on the heavy gun? I noticed the rules say no, but was told that it was changed such that a light gun with a brake could shoot heavy. A light is still 17 lbs or less, correct? Thanks for tolerating a few basic questions. I am trying to decide on shooting the 600 yard event at the VHA jamboree. Is the course of fire 3 5shot groups for each class?

Under the IBS rules, Light gun is 17lbs. and under and your allowed a brake. If you plan on shooting that LG in heavy, you have to take the brake off. There is no brakes in HG class 600yds. That rule has not changed as of yet.

I believe the course of fire is two score targets for each relay, five shots on each with two relays. So a total of 20 shots on four score targets for each class.

Jerry,
As of right now... BMF is correct. Muzzle brakes for 600 or 1000yd IBS HG class is illegal. For the 600 & 1000yd matches under PA and NBRSA santioning they ARE legal.
I think where the confusion is... The rule that prohibites muzzle brakes currently for the IBS HG class is proposed to be changed. But it is undergoing the agenda item process to be presented and voted on at the 2009 winter meeting. If it passes it will allow muzzle brakes for the 2009 season.

To clarify the cource-of-fire also:

IBS and PA 600yd Matches:
(4) 5-shot targets per class (LG & HG) which are agg'd for group and score both.

NBRSA 600yd Matches:
(3) 5-shot LG targets agg'd for group and score
(3) 10-shot HG targets agg'd for group and score

National Championship matches for NBRSA and IBS only add on to the number of targets fired per class with all else staying the same. NBRSA Natl's is 6 targets per class and IBS is 8 targets per class.

I think what ballistic64 was trying to say is that some clubs depending on the number of shooters and target/pits setup sometimes will shoot more than 1 target will sitting at the bench. But the end result is still what is indicated above for total numbers of target fired.
It all depends on the range and target/pit setup for each range. Hope that clarifies some confusion.

Steve
