Muzzle Brake Question?

I have a Browning White Gold Medallion rifle chambered in .325 WSM I was going to put a brake on. The question I have, is the muzzle diameter is .575 an I was wondering if cutting a tenon to .500 and threading 32 pitch threads will leave enough barrel thickness first for safety an second not destroy accuracy? Also is .0375 enough of a shoulder for the muzzle brake to butt up against?

Thanks in advance,
MED.

I have never done one with that small a shoulder. There may be issues with it staying tight however that could be overcome by applying some blue loctite. I'm assuming this is a hunting rifle and the brake will not have to be removed for cleaning often. Another solution could be to have a shoulder inside the brake that would tighten against the end of the barrel. I have done a couple using this method. If you used this method you could go with a 9/16 thread and remove very little from the o.d. of the muzzle.

What JP said..........I wouldn't remove more than I have to from a .575 OD with a .325 ID.........An internal shoulder on the brake is the way to go. The shoulder also is needed for alignment. I wouldn't depend on threads alone for perpendicular alignment........

I have an article about making muzzle brakes on my web site www.rvbprecision.com

I have installed several 1/2 x 28 brakes on very skinny barrels. Precise threading is required. I use anti seize grease on the threads and snug them up using a punch through the ports. They don't shoot loose. I believe this barrel was about .575 or .550 in diameter.
