The 77th annual Sniper King match is in the books. Tacoma's Sniper King event, the oldest continuously awarded trophy in Benchrest, was held on the July 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Awarded annually since 1944, the winner receives the trophy based on the smallest 10 shot group shot at 200 yards. There is a pretty impressive list of benchrest shooters compiled on that one trophy.
Our course of fire was 100 yd/200yd 10 shot groups on Friday, with Saturday being all 200 yd 10 shot groups. Sunday is 200yd/100yd 5 shot groups.
Mustafa Bilal beat them all this year with his .276" 10 shot group shot not once but twice. Shooters had 15 opportunities to shoot that one small group.
Not to take away from Mustafa's amazing .276" group, but the star on Friday was Larry Boers.
Larry put on a clinic for all the world to see, literally, by setting a potential 100 yd unlimited NBRSA record aggregate. Larry won every 100 yd match on Friday morning and finished with a .1624 agg. That afternoon Larry won the 200 yard aggregate easily with a .2078" aggregate.
The 10 shot grand agg for Larry was an astonishing .1851", and yes, that is another potential NBRSA record. Both of the previous records were also set at TRRC by Jeff Yost and Steve Kostanich.
We had a total of 19 different shooters attend the Sniper King this year. We had shooters attend from Oregon, Idaho, and Washington.
Congratulations to Steve Kostanich for winning the Agg King trophy this year with a .2027" 10 shot agg @ 200.
The Sam Wilson Trophy was also won by Larry Boers , shooting an incredible 2 gun agg of .1947".
Larry Boers won the 10 shot unlimited grand agg with a .2436".
Jeff Crose won the Double 200 10 shot unlimited grand agg with a .2209".
Jeff Crose shot an incredible 100 yard 5 shot agg of .1304" Sunday afternoon.
Jeff Crose won the 5 shot unlimited grand agg on Sunday with a 1412".
Small group award winners this weekend were:
Steve Kostanich, Jeff Lewis, Larry Boers, Jeff Crose, Musafa Bilal, Eric Stanton, Bryan Zolnikov, Jim Lynn, Gary Vanlier, and Mark Walker.
I would like to thank Ken Parsons and Jeff Lich for coming the match. Ken is getting reunited with benchrest shooting and Jeff is very capable of all things benchrest. I look forward to seeing Jeff Lich in action soon.
We had a great potluck BBQ on Saturday night. A huge thank you to Teresa Boers and all who contributed.
And lastly, I`d like to bring your attention to the outstanding crew we have behind the scenes: Geoff Hallett, Cai Warner and Craig Kensler all played huge roles in our successful match.
Our next match will be August 7th and 8th, the Sporter and Light NW Regional. We hope to see you there.
