MTC Viper 8-32x60 vs. Leapers 8-32x56

Hello Dears,

Would like to ask if anybody has some experience that may helps me to compare a MTC Viper 8-32x60 against a Leapers 8-32x56.

Problem is, I have this Leapers mounted on my HW100 5.5 FAC, and have found that when on 32x mag, the image quality is not that good, a little bit blurry and seems that there are some imperfections on the lenses coating, or something like that (at least, seems to me...). My question regards to the MTC image quality on the top mag 32x. Is it really "crystal" clear or at least better than the Leapers?

I usually practice bench rest at 25m and some long range shooting at 110m (at night with artificial lights...).

Really thanks any input.

Leonardo

Those Chinese scopes

Vary quite lot in quality ... a few are fine, others are not very clear. If you can check em personally at full power at the proper distance, then select the one you like, you will be better off.

Well, to test each one surelly is the better way. Problem is that as I live in Brazil - South America, I have to buy the MTC from an independent importer, that will bring one just for me, for a very good sum of money (for him), I need to say....

So, before closing the deal, I'm trying to cater the most information I can. I'm already convinced that the ret of the MTC is better for me than mildots, but my concern about the sight picture quality at higher mag remains...

That's why I would like if somebody could come with a direct comparison between the Leapers and the MTC.

I'm aware that optics quality may vary on both brands, but a general comparison may do the job.

Regards,

Leonardo

Ok, I'll give a try to the Yellow Forum also.

You know, after a lot of readings, I'm starting to think that all these chinese assembled/manufactured scopes, even the better ones, have more or less the same optics quality....

The better ones (MTC, Leapers, Hawke.....) seems to go very well until 16x mag, but in a general way, when the mag goes over 24x, all brands shows a large variation on the quality of the sight picture.

Then, is more a matter of luck, rather than brand, to get a good/very good lenses set assembled on the scope You're buying.

Or I'm wrong in my way of thinking?

Chinese high powered scopes

There is a LOT of variation from one to the next ... some are great in clarity, some are blurry at high mag.

A fixed power scope is potentially clearer and brighter than a variable, since there are fewer lense elements, so I personally prefer a fixed target scope such as Weaver or Leupold.

The high powered scopes I've seen with UNIFORMLY good clarity in order by cost are Weaver, B&L, Burris, Leopold, then jump way up in price to the expensive European scopes like Zeiss and Shmidt&Bender.

Since this is an airgun benchrest Forum, I assume you want the scope for airgun benchrest, and suggest you consider a 24x scope from Weaver or B&L (Bushnel). Nearly all argun BR is fired at 25yds, where even a 12x or 16x can work, though my club mostly shoots 50yds, and I find an ancient 24X Leupold still works great for me.
