Back in " The Day" Shooters could come here and learn, have some fun and go to a match or two..........nowdays some wonder why the sport is fading out. Now its all keyboard Drama and talk about $1000000 dollar rifles and $100000 ammo ( then the ammo maybe no good) after reading the Drama here............Kinda makes me wonder why the sport is fading out

i come here and try to learn things. i'll ask questions and wade through the drama for the answers. things like tuning is something we could all us a good lesson on from somebody who would sit down and explain it from beginning to end. not just say your not doing this right or that and tell you what you really need to do. i have mine very close. fine tuning is needed now. there are many on here that could help, but they won't.i believe they fear new guys having great rifles built and showing up at matches.

and to add.....

Lots people come in here and ask " how do we attract new shooters"...WELL DUHH.........If new readers come here and read all of this Drama........they will be scared to death to show up to a shoot.....I sure aint gonna come and bring my NIB pissy-ass 40x.........I am gonna make a "Safe-Queen" out of it

Its just past time , fun and games for some on here. Just show up at some matches with these guys they are glad to talk to ya. And they are friendly too.

Foster! I thought you had curled up and died. You need to come back and shoot with us. Ashland on Dec 5th, Athens on the 12th, Horner's on the 19th.

Hope you can make one of em.

At Gold City they had a new shooter this year that showed up with a pair of safe queen Remington Custom Shop 40X's. High 240's right off the bat. There would be no way to believe it unless you had seen it.

these guys dont talk like this at a match...for fear of a punch in the mouth LOL
NOPE it's all buddy buddy at the match's :):)

big g is dead on the money. i know at our matches we have a great group of guys who show up to shoot. they are very helpful and alot of fun to shoot with.

Still above ground, this week anyway! I'm waiting on a barrel right now Adam, has Dave been having very big crowds? might try and make it up there. you and your Dad not going to the indoor A.R.A on the 5th.?

Later,Foster.

Let's go shoot in the chicken barn Foster.

Mr. Nobody Just a question? Do you believe there's a tuning procedure that can be followed and will work on all rifles? Just a thought here. Most shooters like and use the Hopewell method for getting their Harrell style tuner dialed in. I read it. It made sense to me! But I couldn't get it to work on on my rifle. I shot several speeds of ammo but couldn't find the range (100-200 or 200-300 etc)that stood out as better. Then afterwards I read on here posted by someone why the hopewell method is not the best way. That made sense to me also!

I have to disagree here also:D I have been to ranges in Borden, Silverpoint, Owensboro, Gallatin, Tn, Buckcreek, Dave Horners range in Oh. I have never fired a shot in anger (competition) I have asked competitors many questions and all were answered very throughly and completely. I recently met Jon McKinney near his home town and while he was busy getting some things ready for an outing with his son he spent quite a bit of time answering questions. While at different matches I have been offered guns to shoot ranging from a Hall (Thanks G. Higdon), 40X, Winchester 52D, ULA (Hey John)Calfee guns. etc. I personally think the rimfire community welcomes new shooters just as Buckcreek welcomed you. There is just no guarenteed method of tuning. Talk to them one on one and I'll guarentee they will try to help!

i'm still try the hope well method. i can't give you a answer to be honest with you. i'm having alot of problems dew to weather myself.

at matches when you are face to face with people they are alot nicer. the anger doesn't show up till they are hinding behind a key board. it's a shame to. if i can help anybody i sure try. i simply don't know enough to help anybody. i know less than nothing and prove it with every post i make.

Last two shoots at Dave's and at Athens had over 20 shooters apiece, not bad for just a regular old Saturday evening.

I'll be at ARA Winter Nat on the 5th but dad can't go. I think he will be shooting up here that weekend. Either way you go you'll catch one of us.

nobody,
When I first started out in rimfire Br I asked a lot of questions. I got answers to some and no answers to others. Like you I thought maybe they were holdng out on me. As I learned morte I realized I was asking questions there was no definitive answer for. I found the rimfire shooters to be an honest group of folks, and if they didn't a have a definitive answer they didn't amke something up. I see a lot advice from new shooters to other new shooters on teh internet that's pure crap. If you get advice, check the credentials from which it came. That's the best advice I could give you.
Now on tuning, I could tell you to turn your tuner to where mine is set (211). Last week I shot a 30 bull practice IR5050 target and shot 30 tens and 27X's outdoors with light wind, so I'd guess it's pretty close, or that was some real good ammo. But, this is a fluted .850 barrel 23.75 inches long. My info probably wouldn't be of much help. I used about a half a box of cartridges tuning it so it's probably not perfect. I think I'll leave it as is though.
