moly AND Damzac

I posed this question on another forum; over 100 views but no responses. Any of you guys have any idea on this?

Short of an FBI analysis, is there any way for us commoners to distinguish which coating a bullet has on it? Awhile back, I switched from using moly to Danzac. The problem is: I now have some coated boxes (22's and 30's) but I can't remember which I used on them. AND DID NOT LABEL THEM!

Part two of the question I guess is: If there is no reliable way to tell, and if indeed they ARE coated with moly, what would be the effect of shooting them in a DANZAC coated 30BR barrel?

When they're relatively fresh I can tell them apart. WS2 has a more silvery color. That silver tends to fade with time. Especially if they're stored in cardboard boxes like Hornady;)
I have a few boxes hanging around that I can't tell the difference either:eek:
I make darn sure I mark them now. I'm sure you do too.

Never tried it myself but.. Try polishing some with steel wool. Maybe taking a little of the tarnish off will give you a clue.

As for #2
I've never been a fan of mixing dry lubes. Factory barrel who cares?
Obviously your 30BR is not factory.
I go by the teachings of J Valentine. Or as close as I remember them anyway.
Moly is only a lube when in contact with more Moly. Run naked or different lubes on one surface and it "MAY" cause more friction than copper on steel.

If you really want to use them heres how I would do it. Clean the barrel of WS2. Shoot five or six naked bullets then switch to the moly.
The naked pills should leave a layer of carbon underneath any Moly deposits making it easier to clean out eventually.
Maybe just a patch of Lock Ease could be substituted for the naked foulers.

The easiest solution would be to remove and recoat. You can remove either coating in a vibrator tumbler with a little degreaser, water and some fine sand in about 10 minutes. I've done a bunch, both factory & individual coated and never seen an accuracy problem.

YMMV,
Rick

That is very gratifying to hear your comment , Thankyou very much.
It makes all the years of ridicule worth it. I worked my butt off for years to understand " Pure moly coating " MoS2 and for a long time just got put down.
You have made my decade.
I see info on other sites and even at Sinclairs site that is almost identicle to what I have been saying for years. However some have over reacted I feel .

Its good to see you come back Mr Valentine and you deserve the accolades.
As a totally green lurker I spent hours searching and reading your posts.
Your theories meshed exactly with what my guns were trying to teach me:)
It only seemed prudent to listen and understand both them and you.
As I recall you seemed to be the only one who had any theories and the desire to look further beyond just the target and ask "WHY"?

Twas a sad day when you left and took all that wisdom with you.
Lets not do that again shall we:)

Moly Articles

Thankyou . If you need a copy of my Pure moly articles . I would be happy to email it to you. I took my stuff off because I got sick of defending my work.
Some people got quite nasty about it.
I am very happy I was of some help to you.
I don't do a lot of posting anymore .
If you need any more help let me know via email .
