hey all,
i have my 700 receiver out of the stock and i'm trying to replace the trigger with a Jard replacement. the instructions refer to using a punch to remove pins, but there are no pictures. it appears that there are 4 pins on the trigger housing and i'm not sure which ones to remove. all of them? i wanted to ask some questions before i start tearing this thing apart. thanks for any help.

I don't know what a 'Jard' replacement is but if you're replacing the entire trigger assembly there are only two pins. They are made from 1/8 inch drill rod and they hold everything in the receiver.

OK, I looked it up and it's just another replacement trigger for a Model 700. Surely you're getting the entire assembly and it only has 2 pins as I said.

It is a pretty simple trigger to take off the action.. that is the first thing to do... two pins, don't lose any parts...

...but your question indicates to me, you shouldn't be doing this... get some one more qualified and save yourself a head ache.

The Jard trigger "conversions" that I saw a few years ago were replacement internals for Remington triggers. They were still a 2 lever trigger but used extreme lever length changes to attain a lower trigger release pressure. I was really not impressed with them. The geometry of the moving parts at the contact points put high loads on some surfaces and made me uncomfortable.
But they were cheap. I'd opt for a Shilen or Timney if you have a problem with the original Rem trigger on a non-BR gun.

If the instructions are not clear to you, this is probably not a task that you should undertake on your own. The end result has to be correct, not almost correct.

thanks

thanks for your help everyone! i have a gunsmith-friend who is going to help me either by re-working the factory trigger or installing my already-purchased Jard replacement unit. i'll let you know how it comes out.

Jard trigger

I use two of his trigger "Kits" The assembly is easily removed . None of the adjustments weight ,sear adjustment work after as the leverage point is changed. I like these as a less expensive option to Jewell and Rifle basix. The only drawback is "What you see, is what you get" as there are NO adjustment. However you can change springs to acheive a lower/higher weight and I believe he sells springs seperate. I have one on a 700 Fireball that I have set at 5 o/z.
Jim :)
