Mill Flats/Taper on bull barrel?

I have a Winchester 52C with a Shilen short, fat barrel that doesn't respond well to the tuner. I've added weight to the tuner, but it still doesn't tune especially well. It seems to shoot best with the tuner all the way in against the stop, but will throw a flyer once or twice on a target.

Has anyone here experimented with filing flats on the top and bottom of a barrel near the receiver to act as a reverse taper? The horizontal vibrations would still be dampened, but if long tapered flats were filed top and bottom, it seems that the barrel would be more tunable. Maybe a total length of the flat would be 8-10" and feature a parabolic shape, starting about one inch from the receiver.

If no one has done it, I may just do it and see what happens. I've got all winter to do it, since we've shot our last match for the year at Capitol City.

There is a guy in NY that just shot an ARA 2500 with a triangular Hart barrel. He has the tuner bored so it can be placed in the middle of the barrel.
