mid-bead

i know ths is a benchrest forum but just wondering about mounting a mid bead on a shotgun rib. Are they just as close to the middle as possible or is there a given different position? sorry if this is a stupid question, it does seem like a no brainer ("mid" bead). but i don't want to screw it up. Thanks for the input.

Ideally the distance is not the important issue. You want the smaller bead to be spaced so that it looks the same size as the front bead when pointing. When pointing at the target the front bead should be sitting on the middle bead forming a figure 8 with both beads appearing the same size. I know not one in a 100 shotgunners do it but that is the way they were designed but for most today they are just cosmetic
