I am seeking info on midbarrel tuners , While i have read alot information on the how and why they work I now need information on from those who actually have them .
Is there a paticurlar make model that seems to outperform the rest ? I have one on back order with a name manufacture but have a couple of other 22s that I would like to try one on so I am looking for someone that has them in stock .

Mid barrel tuner

I just put one from Charles Scott on my Rifle......See this month's precision Shooting for a full write-up about his tuner. Anyway, I tested some new Lapua at the same session and used the method related therein. At first, I saw no real improvement over a fairly well tuned rifle with the Hoehn tuner. I was using the advised one inch movements and saw no real improvement. Then I made the 1/4 inch changes from the best spot and removed all of the minimal vertical from the test groups. Yes, there was a great improvement afterall. It just took a little patience and the goody spot was there. It took an .043 group down to .012 (indoors). It does work and is $ well spent.

Group size

Joe,
Thats about 10 times better than good rifles are grouping in Australia I guess we will just have to try harder.

Good Grouping?

BR 50,

I have been blessed with a rifle that has set 3 I/R 50/50 records....one outside and 2 inside. It is an Ans 54 smithed by Bill Calfee. Darrell Horsley put the action in an aluminum sleeve and Bob Metric put it in a stock made from redwood and carbon fiber laminate. Like I said, I was shooting inside when I tested. It probably would not group that well outside, but indoors, if I do not get round groups in the zeros, I pass the pass on that lot of ammo being tested. I then shoot outside and see how it holds up to the wind.

Here is the rub. Good equipment is great but it still needs someone who can drive it. When you go to the line today, most of the equipment in the right hands can win. You Aussies probably are shooting as good as anybody....some of your stuff just costs a whole lot more. It shows your dedication to put up with the high tarriffs.

tight groups

Mojo,
That's some extremely fine shooting and one heck of a rifle you have.

Small groups

Joe,
Thanks for that information that's a terrific rifle you have there and your obviously doing your bit. I don't know of any Australian shooter who can regularly shoot groups in the zeros (indoor testing) or for that matter even get close to that. If we are going to raise out standard to the American standard we really will have to try harder.

tuners

I must stress that this testing was done indoors and off a Ken Fulgham/Randolph Machine rock solid rest. No wind or air stirring, good lighting, and no distractions.

As I stated, any good driver can do well with most of the equipment on the line today.

Good Driver? Lately, I feel that my license has been revoked.

Good Shooting to all and think of the troops.

Can it be assumed those good groups are at 50 feet? And even then they are just an occasional group, not average.
