Micro mill good for learning?

Merry Christmas, etc to all. I may have a bit of time on my hands next year, but a significant weight restriction on my mail, such that I couldn't have even a mini-mill delivered. A micro-mill would fit the bill, however - but would I be able to learn proper machining operations on it, that would transfer later to larger machines?

I don't have any particular purpose in mind for a micro-mill, other than learning how to use a mill. I have no experience w/ machine tools whatsoever. Down the road I hope to get @ least a mini-mill & lathe to fiddle about w/ guns - not @ your exalted benchrest level, but just to keep things interesting.

The Sherline mills, lathes and other equipment can't be beat for what you describe. Go to Sherline.com and browse their website. Joe Martin, the owner of Sherline is a wealth of information and his instructions on how to use every machine and tool he makes are clear and concise. First get a copy of his book, Tabletop Machining. All made in the USA.

For what its worth I just got a Sherline and its impressive for the price. Avoid the Chinese stuff and as Gene said visit the site and absolutely get the book first. I went through the book 3-4 times before I made my final decision, there's a wealth of stuff there.
