Mcgowan 6mm BR chamber

Hello all,
I'm brand new to centerfire bench work, and experimenting with a budget-appropriate used McGowan drop-in barrel for my Savage action. I'd like your input on chamber dimensions; will it fit the longer Norma bullet seating/or how can I measure to know? Whose dies will give me the best fit/ or how can I measure to know.

Thanks in advance for some first-timer advice

I'm far from the brightest but I'll take a stab. One of the best sources of info is always from the previous owner if possible.
I have no idea what you mean by "Norma seating depth"
The original 6BR Remington had a shorter neck. Norma lengthened the neck by .040" I believe. I doubt anyone still chambers for the short necked Remmy round but......it is possible. This is all "before my time" but I think I have it right.

If Mcgowen chambered it with thier reamer it should be a Norma chamber.
McGowen does allow customers to send or rent thier own reamers tho.

For bullet seating depth measurements I like the Hornady case gauge and comparator set.
I'd buy the full comparator set. You can use the .308 caliber comparater to measure headspace on your brass.

For dies? Theres custom dies that can be made but...... My choice for anything not quite world class. Get a Redding S type bushing Full Length sizing die. Set up correctly its the only sizer you will ever need.
All my necksizers are in thier boxes collecting dust.

Fire three pieces of brass three times in your chamber and send the three cases to Neil Jones Custom Die Products. You can find them on this web site as and advertiser, buy the FL die and their seater die.

Thankyou Gentlemen,
That is just the sort of advice I needed. I will probably pursue the Redding S-dies now and save the custom dies for when/ if I get a brand new barrel.

Thanks,
