Mauser bedding

Should the sides of a Mauser action be bedded without clearance or with clearance so that just the flat bottom of the action surfaces are making contact?

I never really enjoyed bedding Mauser style actions. Apart from the tang being about as small as it gets, there is always an issue of how to maintain alignment. Usually, I relieved the sides of the rails, masking them with tape before bedding & relying on a tightly bedded front ring, usually augmented with some bedding on the rear of the barrel, to align the action consistently in the stock.
