We had 18 shooters at our match today at Sault Sainte Marie . . .
Our 16 point covered range is under repair and we had to use our 12 point "uncovered" range: Without the comfort of our heated range building attached to the covered range.
It looked bad for a while as the morning temperature was below freezing when I left home for the range. There was frost on the pumpkins in the garden across from my house.
BUT: No clouds in the sky and the sun warmed us up by 10 am when we started the match. This was the first match in 20 years where I have shot outdoors without a covered firing line. As I remember that last outdoor match was a CF benchrest NBRSA match up at Wawa, Ontario, about 140 miles north of Sault Sainte Marie. (Not too far from polar bear country) Reg Richardson, one of our Canadian RF shooters was running those CF BR matches up there in that previous century. He lives in Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario now, and is a regular shooter at our RF matches.
Great day to be out in the open air. No one seemed to miss heat from the wood stove. This was the last match of our 2010 season. The covered range repair should be finished in a week or two. There has been some talk of shooting this winter, through the window ports from inside the heated building.
