As usual, we will continue our airgun benchrest matches on the third Sunday of each month, circumstances and interest permitting.

The headmaster of the IFP organization has taken umbrage at the way we have been conducting our matches, so we will no longer be associated with the IFP game.

We will be considering other targets to fire on as we use up the stock we bought. A serious consideration is towards shooting for group size rather than scoring rings. Can someone here suggest a good target for this use? I want good paper and room for around five groups plus lots of sighters. Will use the targets at both 25yds and 50yds, so I assume an 8"X10" card might work.

There are two sactioning bodies for AG Bench that are actually shooting. IFP and this one. This one is 25 yds with best edge scoring and the other is 30 yds worst edge scoring. If you want to shoot sanctioned matches, those are the options. If you don't, just pick a target, and use what ever rules you choose.
 
I understand about the current games you mention

Was wanting input on targets someone might be familiar with. I explained about IFP, and I am not leaning toward AG Bench because I still can't be comfortable with enhancing the scores of the majority of the shooters just because a few use a larger caliber. To me, the system is rewarding the wrong caliber needlessly.

I've owned and played with over 500 airguns, and have tested them all for accuracy and even tuned many for accuracy, and have come to the firm belief that the .22 cal airguns generally are slightly less accurate at close range than the .177's, prolly mostly because of availability of pellet choices. Sure, there ARE a few pretty decent .22's around, just as there are exceptional .177's and 5mm's, but in general ....

I feel the current AG scoring method needlessly enhances .177 scores, so I've avoided the system. This is the main reason I'm leaning more toward CTC scoring.

Hey Larry,

It is a bummer that you have a match the same day as we have one in El Cajon, going to miss ya there. Hopefully you can make the next one?

Anyways, you asked about a target to shoot, take alook at the I attached. It has 25 record bulls and some sighters. It is also on an 8.5X11 piece of paper. Not sure of the bull dimensions as I just found it.

Larry, the simplest, cheapest, and most convenient option may be to use the metric 50ft indoor NRA target. It's a 12 bull target, 10 record and two sighters on good paper and available in official and aftermarket versions at many local outlets.

I don't want to shoot bulls, I want a target more optimized for shooting and measuring groups. Five record groups per target and some sighters is all we need. Will maybe end up with a design with squares in it for the groups to go in or sumthin.

We started shooting the third Sunday of the month last Summer John, so unless Project 2000 goes to a different weekend, we prolly won't be seeing much of each other's matches.
 
Larry, I know you had an established match long before we started up. If I was given a choice, our dates would not conflict with yours. But the choice is the Mangers at Proj2000, and so far "cooperation" has not been in vogue down here. I'll keep trying. John
