match directors...food service?

I am trying to plan for the upcoming season, and I would like to step up the offerings for lunch and maybe even breakfast if the price is reasonable.
Has anyone looked into using a mobile food vendor for matches? I am having a hard time even locating them in the phone book or on the web. All the searches come up for truck sales, not planning an event or hiring.

This is my first exposure to this type of industry so please forgive my ignorance if this idea sounds ridiculous to those who know.

We don't have a kitchen at the range, and the subway subs get a little gamey after an hour or two in the 90degree heat of the summer (the bees also love coldcuts, and we don't need anyone's trigger finger getting all puffed up during a match).

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Match directors food service

You can try a local Diner and ask them to cater the match.
Usually ther is someone local that does this.
How about the people at your local Vfw or other vets organization?.
Just an Idea''

Food?

I run the matches at PVGC in Nevada and believe me, it is NOT worth the effort UNLESS you get a commitment before the match of the attendees WHO want to eat at the range. Most bring their grits with them. We served hot lunches the first two years and it was just a break even thing. The shooters liked it but it was lot of work for very little return. One needs to have a place to cook the food and an area to eat in and someone to serve it up and clean it up. IF you are close to town (with in reason) you may take a head count in the morning and have the appropriate number of lunches delivered! We do supply free bottled water in the hot months and coffee and dough nuts in the cooler weather with a donation jar which usually covers the dough nuts. Good luck! Jan Sarras

Mike,
The mobile food vendors (roach coach) around here are at any and all construction sites on a twice per day( mon-fri) schedule.I'll bet if you run one down during the week you could make weekend service arrangements at your club.Usually some moderately semi-hot( desperation ?) babe at the wheel with "la cucaracha" playin' on the loud speaker.I think most BR guys would enjoy a leathery egg McMuffin for breakfast or a freeze dried burrito for lunch ? Throw in the cheerfull "fiesta" atmosphere and it's a win-win for everybody.

one of your local grocery stores. We had the local Hy-Vee cater the Nationals at Webster City this year. The attendees were VERY happy w/ the food and the store was more than happy with the business. Might even work on a smaller scale for local matches if all parties kow the numbers

The two matches that we had last year had a 6' sub, water and sodas for lunch, and assorted muffins, donuts, and cakes for breakfast. I wasn't looking for any profit and we ended up breaking even on the food. It's fairly simple to get it set up, but I wanted to give the guys an option for different food if they desired.

If we get a good enough following we may be able to rangle some of the folks hanging around to cook some food. I just didn't know how viable the food truck option would be (or if it would hinder the attendees from continuing to be viable!)

Thanks, guys.
Mike

Thanks, Dave. I will check out the grocery stores prices and see what the guys might like. I hadn't thought about that angle.

Gerry,
There is a VFW right down the road, and I had no idea they did things like that. I will check it out.

Rick has about got us trained here at Gallatin - some of us even help tend the grill. And he's thrown us a curve or two with red beans and rice if I remember correctly. Now that's a great match director..........

Mike, are you near the shipyards???
I am sure that have the roach coach stuff. They might like the weekend work....

six foot sub is about $60 and feeds just about 24 guys, sodas and assorted chips, muffins, etc. run about $40 (though I still have a number of sodas and chips left over).

Zippy06,
I am about a half hour to 45 minutes from the coast, and so I am not sure if they would travel that far. I was thinking about calling a local construction company and seeing who they use.

I, too, like the KISS principal and was hoping to not have to load up my little corrola with food and the rest of the match gear every month hence the mobile vendor. We'll see what comes of it.

Thanks,
Mike
