March 2011 Temecula Benchrest Club match results

We finally got the regulation sized World's targets and held our first match here in Temecula using them. The other recent 25 meter matches were held using targets that turned out to be slightly (around 9% undersized), and probably resulted in reduced scores, though of course, the results are still relevant among those participating at those individual matches.

Six of us "regular clubbies" shot on the course, which I only days ago updated with a nice concrete apron and slightly roomier layout that makes it a little less hectic and crowded during relay changes (not that we needed more than one relay today). We now have six permanent concrete benches, and room for two more folding ones if they are really needed.

Today we had dark skies, and a threatening storm, but the morning began with lighter than usual, though still very shifty winds that generally never stayed the same in direction or intensity for more than twenty seconds or. The conditions during firing of the first target were halfway decent if you were of the type that just "shoot the wind", but not all THAT great if you were the type to "wait for your condition", though either method could work if you used up nearly all your time judiciously. As the second and third targets were being fired, conditions were gradually worsening, until by the middle of the last one, it was a real crapshoot on just where and when to aim and shoot.

There WAS a guy that didn't see it that way though, as Tim Donaldson shot better and better with each passing moment (I wish I knew that trick).

Results:

Shooter trgt1/x's trgt2/x's trgt3/x's total/x's class

Larry Durham 249/9 249/11 236/5 734/25 HV/.22

Matt Saenz 249/14 243/11 241/9 733/34 Open/.22

Tim McMurry 249/14 245/8 235/6 729/28 HV/.22

We had a nice lunch up at the grill afterward, with the popular burgers and chips, beer, and some baked beans.

LD,

Great shooting guys, what a difference a target makes, good x counts also. Now, the conditions you guys are use to shooting in there, shooting here should be a cake walk for you guys.

Again great shooting.
