Magazine insert

I could use some help here. I shoot a Savage 12FCV .223. It has a 4 round detachable magazine. During competition we fire single shot only. I've tried shooting without the magazine in, and it is very difficult to insert a round into the chamber, and hold position. Using the magazine (one round at a time) pushing a round into the clip, again breaks my position.
Does anyone know if an insert or magazine is available that will allow me to drop a round into the breech, that will feed that round into the chamber, when I close the bolt.

The item you are looking for is typically called a SLED whcih stands for "Single round Loading Device". I know they are available for many different configurations through Sinclair. They are made of Plastic, nylon or Delrin and the are rather inexpensive. It goes in in place of your detachable box magazine, and has a groove cut so when you load a round onto the ramp it doesn't cause any distubance as you push the bolt forward, yet it centers the round in the action.

I have shot 223 Remington from Savages rifles for years and have NEVER found a SLED or magazine insert that worked.

There seems to be "something" about Savage actions that just do not allow the rounds to be fed into the chamber without first putting the round in the magazine and then feeding it out of the magazine. It should be possible as their single shot 223's work flawlessly, but I have never been able to replicate that in my repeaters.

This is probably the part you need altho I don't know Savages from chopped liver so can't comment on whether or not it'll work.

Sharp Shooter Supply in Delphos Ohio make one and it works, I've got them in a couple rifles, call Lisa @ 419-695-3179, she'll hook ya right up, they make a lot of trick part for the Savage rifles, easy to deal with, never had anything bad for them, always good service too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hmm, I've got a Savage 12 .223 with a single shot adapter installed that works like a charm. It's a live varmint rifle but doesn't have the detachable magazine. If it's for Savage rifles and Sharp Shooter Supply doesn't have it it's likely not made.
