M700 Bolt Stop

I recently received a new Kelbly BR stock made to fit a M700 Rem action. The action will not fit properly because the bolt stop hits the stock. Rather than hog out the stock to accomodate the bolt stop, would it be alright to ignore it and use the rifle without the bolt stop? Other than losing the bolt, I can't see any problems.

keep the bolt stop

What kind of bolt stop does ur action hve..???
is it a presto (plunger style) add on ...or are you talking of the original Rem. 700 that slides up-n-down on the trigger and activates the lil' blade bolt stop that is cut in the bottom of the action....every benchrest action (custom or Rem. ) has a bolt stop...the stock from Kelblys is not inletted for all of the various add on's ...which culd be located anywhere within 1/2" fore and aft on the side of the action....just zizzz out some material and start shootin...Roger

It's the original

I have the original M700 bolt stop that slides up and down and fits in a groove along side the trigger

Hillclimber, If your trigger has a bolt release on it, you might as well use the Remington bolt stop. Most of my triggers do not have a release so I just drill and tap a 1/4 x 20 hole in the side of the receiver, make a short screw and use that for a bolt stop. Much easier that trying to put the spring back if using the factory bolt stop.

You can also run a small piece of metal forward and trip the Remington lever. That is down the LH raceway on a RT bolt rifle.

m700 bplt stop

You have had some really good advice so far.
Hogging a bit out really isn't that big of an issue.
If it's done right it hardly shows. Also it doesn't hurt the bedding.
