Lyman Trigger Gage

Looking to purchase a Trigger Gage and considering the "Lyman Trigger Pull Gage Electronic Digital 0 to 12 lb Model". Anyone here used it and does it work well at the low Bench Rest settings. The spec's state that "with accuracy of ± 0.10 ounces (one-tenth of an ounce.)" so it looks like a good one.

Thanx,
Les

Les I have one of the Lyman digital trigger pull scales and it works excellent will read down to a 1oz. and have had no problem with it and I have had mine for almost 5 years. Brian

I have one also, it is very repeatable. It has a nice feature that you can average a series of pulls on the trigger also.

Now if you want real precision?
Go to Wally World and buy some fishing weights.
A couple of 1 ounce and some smaller ones to fill out your tackle box.
Why do I bring up weird Ideas like this you ask?
Well a few years ago I bought a fancy digital trigger pull gauge.
A couple of weeks after ‘Fine Tuning ‘ my trigger pulls I went back and checked them.
They were all over the scale? Ugh what has gone wrong with my triggers? They did not feel any different but the scale sure said they were. Just for the heck of it I grabbed some fishing weights and started testing. To add a little quality control I weighed all the weights and combination of weights to the 1/10 of a gram. Net result was I sold the fancy trigger pull gauge and use the weights. One draw back is temperature and humidity can throw off my measurements by as much as a gram!
The benefit is that when I give up Benchrest I can always go fishing.
That’s My Story and I’m Sticking To IT:D

Right on Doug, been using fishing weights for years.

Thanks for the info. hmmmm fishing weights. Interesting idea for light bench rest settings but I'm trying to picture the bundle for heavier use. Guess I could get some barbells :D

Les:

Just use mine.

Thank you sir. Of course I just got done ordering it from Midway before I got back on here and saw your reply, I wanted one anyway so I can have it to check my other stuff as needed. Slowly trying to build up a stash of tools. When I told the wife last night I was going to start building a machine shop out back so I can build my own guns after I retire she rolled her eyes and gave me that look with "that's nice dear". Of course I'm joking for I don't think I could concentrate long enough to watch the 60 minute DVD from Wal-Mart "How to Build your own Rifles" Just a little Friday afternoon humor sitting in the office waiting for the weekend. Looks like yard work this weekend since no where to shoot, unless I get totally stupid and go to my favorite local range where the POI moves 5 inches just by breathing.
Not sure if a bench could have more wobble than a bird with weak legs. :D

Sunday shoot

Les;
Call me at home. I know of a place to shoot Sunday. Not BR, but you will smell 22rf gun powder burning.
