Way to go Tymn Combest of San Angelo. I am glad I did not go to the shoot. I don't think that I would have liked to have been dominated like the rest of the shooters were. IF I figured right, you could have not shot the fifth relay and still won. The rest of us had better be practicing this winter instead of just loading. I know that Jason, the Dukes, and the Cockcrofts will be ready in the spring. I can't wait for the 2011 Shooter of the Year series to begin at Mike's. It looks to be a real horse race. Once again, Congratulations!! Tad

Tymn does it again

:DOutstanding win Tymn...great shooting...looks like you found the tune on that barrel...:D

Congratulations Tymn

Tymn and I shared a bench so I know he was basically looking at the same thing I was all day long. He just saw it a whole lot better than anyone else. :D John Trammel in second place did a good job as well. He was shooting to my immediate right and I had the privilege of watching him break lots of those clays.
We were shooting at 500 yards so you would have expected scores more along the lines of the rest of us. Tymn had an outstanding day for sure and it was a well deserved win.

Thanks for the congrats guys. After the worst shoot I've had this year at Tad's two weeks ago, it was nice to see things go right. What is odd is that the conditions were very similar to the conditions at Tad's range. My new 1:8.5 twist Krieger that Eddie Williams chambered is shooting 140 JLK's really well. In this match, what I saw was that the wind was blowing the bullet down and right pretty consistently about 2". As the day heated up, it seemed the bullets were moving higher about 1-5", so you had to aim lower. And finally, the mirage L-R moved in and I was having to shoot into the mirage about 2-8". After you try and put all these conditions together, my final aim point I ended up with was about 6" low and 6-8" left. The third, fourth, and fifth string, I moved about 2" further low left (very consistently) at each string. When I hit the small clays the last string, I was holding about 8" low left. I wanted to dial in closer, but hate to do that in the middle of a match with limited bullets... So I just aimed out there and got lucky.

Anyway, it sure was a fun shoot. Sure missed the guys from Dallas and the Huntsville area. I don't know what the future of LSSO is. So many people are upset with them. They only had 38 shooters this time, way down from the 60 they often have. I was shocked at the end of this shoot that the range officer asked that we give them feedback on what they could do to make it better. Almost ALL of the complaints I've heard at both LSSO shoots this year were directed towards the attitude and comments from the TacPro staff, and the way they feel they are treated at the range.

I'm not trying to seem that I don't appreciate the opportunity to shoot at a match ... just stating the facts.

I am looking forward to shooting with ALL the Texas shooters next year at Cockcroft's, Duke's, and Emert's ranges.

When the match was over, few shooters got a copy of the final results. It usually takes TacPro awhile to get the results posted on their website (there's some feedback), so Scott Deal got a copy at the front desk and gave it to me. I've attached a copy.

Way too funny. Yeah right. Joe, you know how much confidence I had when we started. I almost couldn't get my gun on target within the 10 minute time limit, then my bolt got stuck. I can put on a clinic on how to do that!

I would definately call it a Combest shooting clinic, leaving only two big clays for the day at 500 yds. That means breaking ten mini calys, fifteen mids, and thirteen bigs for a total break of 38 with 50 rounds. Extrodinary shooting in a gusty wind. Congratulations on an impressive win Tymn, it has been a pleasure shooting with you for the last couple of years. Look foreward to the next match and next year.

Maybe we need to photoshop him a little.
Keep him humble. That picture was before the match. You ought to see the one after the match with the bighead. ;)

So that's what that picture in the email from Tymn was about. It showed a hand holding a trophy in Tymn's truck(I figured it to be Tymn's truck with the electronic gadgets hanging out of the dash and the "Happy Hour" cup in the cupholder)-no message-just a picture. I thought maybe he grabbed it off of an awards table and was making a getaway with it. :) But I see he came by it fair and square ! Congratulations Tymn ! Good shooting. I have shot with Tymn many times and I think that he has a gift when it comes to reading the wind, which I think is about the most important thing in shooting, assuming you have the basics covered(good equipnment, good loads and good techniques).

Best,

Best way I've found to beat him is to make sure he has plenty to drink the night before. But be carefull, he can drink more then most, it could backfire on you. I know from experience.
When he gets into that "Zen" wind reading mode, you better look out.
