Lot testing

When you order ammo for lot testing, what quantity do you usually buy? Do you do any weight sorting or rim thickness sorting, or just shoot straight from the box? Also, any idea on how many cases of ammo might be put through production before changing the lot numbers?

My Choice

I usually purchase 100 round ( 2 boxes ) of each lot. Buy as many lots as you feel you can afford. When I buy quality match grade ammo, I shoot straight from the box. Weighing and sorting by rim thickness is a waste of time. It's hard to tell, as to how many cases of each lot are produced, it will vary due production runs. As I understand it, the lot number is changed after every shutdown, for what ever reason. Check out Killough Shooting Sports, who advertises on this web site for his contact info on Eley Ammo, he's easy to do business with.
