Lot number (which one?)

I am in the process of purchasing 8 lbs of H4198. A saleslady from Cabelas said "Hodgdon has discontiuned making 8 lb containers of H4198" I find this hard to believe, but regardless, they don't have 8 lbers.
Looking for the lot number on my can of H4198, I see several different numbers. Which one is the lot number? As per Jackie's thread, mine also has an orange tag, is that the lot number or is it on the label somewhere?
Thanks in advance, just want to get my information straight before I go and buy several 1 pounders.

Jason, you might try this................

Call Hodgdon and ask THEM if they've discontinued 8ers. Then, call Powder Valley(powdervalleyinc.com)to see what they have. I've found they are THE BEST people, bar none, to deal with. I don't think you'll ever, EVER, look back. Good Luck. :)

Powder Valley cannot help him when they don't have any

Their price on 8 lb H4198 is very good, I wonder what it will be when they finally get some ?

At this point if you need 4198 you take whatever you can find wherever you find it.

That's true, Dick, but the point................

was made that, "a lady....." said Hodgdon was no longer making 8ers. Me?? I might buy a couple, but I'd keep my eyes open for more elsewhere. As was discussed on another thread, the ol' Boy Scout's motto is the best bellwether. You can bet MANY folks will not be caught asleep at the switch again. Speaking of prices, while we were on, and just after we got off, the silver standard, prices were much more reasonable, and we've been lulled asleep on how things "...just continue to go up...." Many on this board know the REAL problem is, the dollar is constantly falling, artificially propped up by debt!!! But....I don't want to get "political", Dick. ;):D:D

I got two 8# jugs from Powder Valley about 1 July. Had to wait about two months. I would suppose back orders cleaned them out. One of the guys at the range had to wait 6 mo for Varget. They got in 20,000# and it all went to back orders and they were still short.
