Off track

Jim:
Most threads, go off track, about the forth post. Then it goes crazy and worthless.

Don't hold back Fred....tell us how you really feel!
Fred tells it like it is.....and he is usually right.

The real question is who owns a thread. Some folks believe that because they start a thread, everything in the thread belongs to them. Most responders to threads do so for the benefit of all the readers of the forum, both current and future. The software that is used here allows the starter of a thread to delete the whole thread. I wish that were not so. I have no problem with someone editing what they say because it was not factual or spelling or done in the heat of the moment and there is a more PC way of saying what needed saying. They should not be able to remove what someone else says..my .02 cents. As far a lieing flags are concerned, mine don't lie, they just aren't too bright so they make mistakes and may be candidates for ESL education because they don't communicate with me very well at times.

I deleted it because a few people were getting off topic. The ones posting opinions and experiences were very good.

The thread was an excellent one with some good examples. The original poster removed it. That is his right.

If someone else wants to start this subject again it could be helpful. Independently, two of the shooters in my club have asked me if I know what happened to it.

the pen is mightier than the sword as long as ya own the paper your writing on !

I sure would like to see the "delete thread" button limited to moderator use only. There is too much quality data that just goes 'poof' without warning around here.

Have you considered that the "very good" experiences may very well outweigh a "few" people getting off topic? Show me a thread that doesn't wander aound the topic and back again. As far as that goes, nothing wrong with a little humor to keep it light too. You know, the funny people.

It's too bad an entire thread and the information it contains is lost because someone interjects a little humor or wanders off track.

With that in mind, open a new thread and I am sure you will get some good responses.

I do use props on my homemade flags that are similar to Wicks (not as pretty though.) I use rubber band model airplane props. Light weight and spin easy. I paint each blade a different color so I can see the rotation speed a little better. When first testing them, I had one with and one without a prop next to one another and noticed the flags seemed a little quicker to react to wind direction changes without the prop. Also streamers seem to react to wind changes faster that the flag or props. I have three sets of streamers for different wind velocities. But normally here in Kansas I just leave on the heavier streamers, 1 inch chain about 2 feet long. But you don't want to walk to close to them on the way to changing targets as the chain is a dangerous weapon. Rich

I am new to the sport, and my flags tell white lies all the time. I use surveyors tape and that gives me a better idea than the flags. I also use model airplane propellers, wind needs to be about 4-5 mph for them to spin. I do get good wind change from my homemade flags. In watching them, they respond as well as others I have observed on the line.

I don't think anyone can go by the flags alone, I think to read the wind you must have a feel:rolleyes: watching everything on the ground and air:p and that sence that comes from many hours of watching the wind currents:eek:. All the flags and meters don't replace the man or woman that is self educated in wind management:D

thats my take anyways.

B. Harvey,

I put your wind flag post backup due to popular demand. You may delete it and I will not reinstate it. It is just one of the better posts with some thoughtful responses.

It will die a natural death as do all threads if we leave it alone. In the mean time, there are some who want to get and share good information. I hope you don't mind.

Bill, I figured since it was getting off topic, several times, it was not that popular.
