Hello looking to build a rifle for F Class thinking 6mm or 6.5 mm. Not sure what case to drive it down range with looking @ 1000yd range. You can actually find 6mm on the shelf it seems. I like 7mm however difficult to find bullets with any kind regularity. Opinions out there on 6mm - 6.5mm and barrel configurations.

Thanks

for 1000 yards the 7mm will be the better choice. Handloading is also a must in my mind!! The standard 284 does well, but if this were me, I would choose a 7mm short mag. Lee

I run a .284win. and 180gr. bullets. I'm running them 2900fps. out of a 32" barrel.

Yes one of the short mag versions of 7mm are very popular but barrel life will be in the 600-800 round range. Barrel life for the .284win. is around double and for some shooters even more than that. Yes you can push the bullets a little faster with the 7 mags. but I don't feel an extra 100-200fps makes a ton of difference.

I'd use a 6mm round if it was for 600 yard matches or less distance wise. I've shot the 6mm's plenty out to a 1k and even 1200 yards and it is very competitive but if the wind conditions are bad the 7mm is going to have a very nice edge.

6mm BRX or Dasher

Great inherent accuracy, great components, easy to shoot, more economic to shoot, lots of good information. Great to 1000 yds.
