Several clubs in my area,Southwest Pennsylania, shoot indoor rimfire. The targets we use is 56mm bottle caps. The company that we purchase these from,(Stanpac Lewistown, NY) is discontinuing their production. Can anyone tell me where they can be purchased?

Thanks TomD

Your right there are thousands of sites, however nothing like we use. We use flat disc of paper. The disc is stamped in the center with a target. After it is shot it is measured with a dial indicator to see how far of center the shot was.

How do you score bottle caps?

Never shot bottle caps. We use aspirins.

We use a ¾ to 1” red dot and glue the aspirin to the center of the dot with super glue or a hot glue gun.

Aspirins are about 0.250 or so. Hit them and they puff. We use an 8X10 sheet with 9 red dots across. Center dot has no aspirin and is used for sighter. Mostly we shoot at 100 yards. Rules are simple:

• Each shooter is assigned a row.
• Match time is 7 minutes.
• Shots on sighter target do not count.
• You shoot aspirin #1 in your row till you make it go away. Then you shoot #2 and so on.
• Perfect score is 8 shots and 8 Aspirins. If you shoot 8/8 you advance to next round.

A good BR 6 PPC will shoot fifty or more straight.
My 25-06 is good for 25 or so.

If the shooters are good and killing all the aspirins we switch to small rifle primers. (Used) These are 0.177 diameter. Similar to X ring in a score target.

If you use red or orange dots with the aspirins in the center they are ease to see with a 20X or better scope.

Have fun

Bottle cap scoring

How do you score bottle caps?

Bottle caps are scored using a dial indicator. The shooter shoots one shot at each cap. The cap is placed over a stud that is a tight fit. The cap is rotated and the dial indicator measurers how far off dead center the shot is. That number becomes the shooters score for that target.

The shooter with the smallest agg wins the match. Each target is shot with a cold barrel. No sighters after the match starts. Each target is scored as it is shot, and each target has a winner for the target. Normally 13 targets are shot for a match. Different clubs shoot different ranges. Around here (60 to 75 feet, indoors).

Good shot are .20 or less. (There are some 0's shot) bad shots are anything over .60. An agg. of .400 to .500's for the 13 shots will put you in the money sometimes!

We used to have the same matches with air rifles, only we used 12 ga. nitro cards for targets.
