looking for a Walther rifle smith

I am looking for a lead on a smith who might be willing to work on a bolt from a Walther KKM. Its problem is beyond my meager capability and I know it cannot be rocket science. Yes I have done the google thing. Any help appreciated. bob finger

Help

Neil Stepp of International Shooting Sports can help you. His phone # is 817-595-2090. He is in Ft. Worth, Tx.

J. I just got off the phone with Neal. The bolt will be on its way to him today.

How can I thank you? Neal was generous with his time and knowledge even if he cannot solve my problem, but suspect he can and will. Again my sincere and heartfelt thanks for the tip. bob finger

Neal is great to work with and is especially knowledgeable about the Walther KKM rifles. Also, ask him to notify you about his annual rimfire ammunition sales.

Guys: I owe you an update.

Bolt has been shipped to Neal Stepp and he thinks it can be repaired and is in process of attempting to do that. The wing safety part of the bolt came apart thus the portion that engages the firing pin assembly and bolt body does not hold the safety in the bolt. After the bolt is fixed we will find out if that was the reason it was closing so very hard on a live round or if we need to do more.

It is a KKM International Match, probably a mid 1960's rifle. No date code on the barrel. Serial number matches the test target that came with the rifle, thus we know it is a KKM international match. Has a very nice walnut thumb-hole 3 position stock...albeit an early one without grip adjustments and with the tapered fore end front. It has the Walther rail and Walther hook and hand grip and the original sights. Interesting to me the barrel is not drilled for Lyman/Unertl scope blocks. Perhaps none were. It looks essentially unused to my eye. This is one HEAVY rifle.

I found or someone sent to me a full pdf of the instruction manual, mostly in English. The photos show a slightly different design of the bolt and photos show a later stock configuration but otherwise it appears correct to my rifle.

Rifle came with a very nice two stage trigger. Sets smoothly and 2nd stage breaks with less than two ounces of pressure. I'll report again when I get the bolt back from Neal. Thanks for all the help, both here and on RimFire Central. You all are terrific. bob finger
