I need a VFD for a 5hp 3Ph and I only have 220 1Ph now
I have heard a lot about these and need more information asap and where a guy can get the best price on one. I have been hearing about the Mitsubishi and would like to know more about that one.
Does anyone have experience with one of these ?

I don't believe in paying much for old-tech electronic gear....... in fact I don't like to pay ANYthing for things like phones, and have found that generally speaking electronics don't wear out unless they've lots of moving parts. Which a VFD doesn't. Nor is one wire generally "better" than another. In this spirit I shopped my VFD's for cheap, presuming that quality was equal.

I may well be wrong, but I paid 129 and 159

I've used this supplier twice. http://www.automationdirect.com/adc/Home/Home

The items seem to work as advertised, which means WELL.

Using the VFD today on the mill, making a sleeve to hold dies and actions, that VFD is AWESOME!!!!!

Trick was, drilling a hunnerd .210 holes, it's all about feed VS speed and dialing the VFD just makes it dirt simple to get spirals of steel off the drillbit.

LOVE it

oldpup223 if you are going to run a 3ph 5hp motor from single phase find out what the VFD manufacturer recommends, most VFD manufacturers only make single phase input VFD's up to 3hp, any bigger than that and they are usually 3 phase input..

I'm using a 10hp Hitachi WJ200 VFD to power a 5hp motor with no problems, Hitachi recommended doubling the VFD size if using single phase input when using a 3 phase input VFD.......Ian

double the power

Yes that is what I have found that I will need at least a 10hp VFD to do the job so now I am just going to go ahead with a 3 phase power converter and get a smaller VFD in the future.
Thanks for all of the replies

There is no need to over size with a VFD. If you need 5 hp. get one for 5 hp. If you get one with constant vector the torque stays the same....... jim

vfd

I have a weg brand for 1hp motor if that would do you any good.
Grizzly tools in springfield mo. is a good source for vfd
Do a little googling you can take a 3phase motor and use for a vfd but you have to start it like a boat motor then it will generate the power you need from single phase to 3 phase.
Also you may find a 5hp single phase motor is cheaper than phase converter.
Thats what i did on my 5hp monarch although had to wire in switching relays for forward and reverse but worked out well.
Hope this helps.
