Long or Short

My new to me (actually fairly old) Remington 40X with sleeved Hart barrel requires a rail for a scope. How can I tell if it is long or short action? It is a single shot 6mm PPC.

Data point -

I have a 40X in 300 Win Mag. It has a short action. To remove a loaded round, the bolt has to be removed.

Looks as if all this sellers didn't get the word that there was never a 40X Long Action, even though they advertise they've got a scope mount for one. :)
 
Ab, have you ever seen a 40X long action? I have never seen one. A friend has a 7mm Remington magnum in a 40X and it is a short action. It seems that the ads that you have seen lump the 40X's in with the long action 700's. If there are 40X long actions, I would love to see one. Good shooting....James
