Leupold M8 36x Scope

I have the above and was wondering what it is worth, can anyone tell me? Had it for several years and was thinking about selling it to buy a VX3 6.5-20x40mm. Just not sure what the M8 is worth. It has the fine cross hairs and 1/8" adjustments if I'm remembering correctly.
 
Look in the classifieds or on Ebay, both places seem to bring maximum return on a Leupold.

Are you sure? I actually have 2 of these, one 24x and one 36x. I remember the 24x which is in use is 1/4" but not totally sure about the 36x. I do remember when I bought the 24x that it was not a target version, and the target version I'd swear was available with 1/8".

Would I bet my life on the above facts? Nope!

Not sure how I could tell without mounting the scope on a gun.

These were great scopes for benchrest shooting, and I even used them successfully for varmint hunting.
 
I'll trust your judgement more then mine. Heck, I don't remember what I did yesterday.
 
Maybe you can tell me something about the scope as I don't know much about it, it was my fathers which he used for benchrest shooting. It has an attachment that says Premier 36x. I believe it is a 24x and this attachment boosts the power to 36x. Have you ever heard of this or is that the way it came from Leupold?
 
Then what you have is a 24x Leupold bumped up to 36 by the Late Dick Thomas. Dick was well known in BR circles and did a lot of work on Leupold scopes. I never owned a Premier 36x although at one time I owned three of his 18-40x scopes. One small problem is if it is ever returned to Leupold for warranty repairs it might come back a 24x I do not know. On the other hand Premier scopes bring somewhat of a premium price although since it is actually a bumped 24x it is possibly worth as much as an original 36 but not likely any more. Later model Leupold BRD's bring as much as $500-600 the earlier 36's from what I have seen bring $300-400 I am sure someone will disagree with me but I would think your scope is worth $300 or maybe a little more. A new Weaver is around $375 and has a large effect on the price of these older Leupold's
 
The Premier attachment is an extension that is right in front of the rear eyepiece. You sure know your Leupolds. You can see it in the attached photo, it is the colar just forward of the rear lockring.

Dick, thanks for all the info and tips. You have a lot of knowledge on Leupold scopes. You are right about the Weaver scopes. About 5 years ago I picked up a T24 and then a T36. After 5 years they have held up really well. The optics aren't as bright as Leupold but they aren't bad either. They've worked well on the rifles I have them on. But my favorite scopes are the Leupolds.

My first Leupold was the M8 24x, I remember I paid almost as much for it as I did the rifle. But it was a world of difference between my first scope. Since then I have tried to stay with Leupold whenever I can.
