Leupold Comp Scopes

I heard there was a run of the Leupold Comp Scopes that had some problems.

I don't know if it was some time ago or more recent.

Does anyone know anything about this?

If so, what string of serial numbers and letters were assigned to the problem scopes.

Thanx

I just sent a brand new Competition 40X back for repair. The windage knob would not turn through its entire adjustment range. I noticed it after mounting it on a rifle, but before ever pulling the trigger. They will fix it and have it back to me shortly.....at least they always have before whenever I've sent one for repair. PITA? yes. Reason to not buy another? Nope. bob

leupold comp scopes

Shinney leupold had a few problems with there first scopes.
All of the problems have been solved from what i'm told.
One thing you can be sure of it has a lifetime warrenty.
The second or third owner will also be covered.
Bob Fortunato has 2 and they are top notch with zero problems.
He swears by them
I hope this answers your questions

My father and I both had the same windage and elevation problem as Bob did. We both have new 45x comps. Had to send mine back twice. When my father called with his complaint the reply was "you'll probably never need to go down to the "1" or "0" so it should be fine". Seems that there is a spring under the turret cap that gets bound on itself, and so it won't compress all the way down if you, like Bob and myself, try to run the windage and elevation through its full course of travel.
They did pay for overnight shipping on both of my returns, and the customer service person did "make it right" for me, but it is a little disheartening when you pay $1,000 and coming out of the factory it won't do what it's supposed to do. Lifetime warranty did give me a measure of confience for sure.
The clicks are repeatable, the glass is clear and bright (and you can get it to focus correctly :D unlike your other experience with a different maker), the reticle is plumb and the parallax is holding well.
Despite the inconvenience I would still, at this point, buy another one.

I have done some investigating and found the scopes that were bad (en mass) right out of Beaverton, were manfactured in 2002 & 2003; K & L.
This doesn't mean no others were bad, just not en mass as in 02/03.
