Any issues leaving powder exposed to the air for a couple days?? Noticed I left the top off/open of the 2lb jug of N140 & the plug off the bruno measure about 1/2 full for a couple days.

I've never had a problem with the powder I've done that with. Sometimes in the winter, I like to pour a little in the lid and leave it in the bathroom. Helps get my mind in the game for the up coming season...kind like a deer in Rut....:p

I don't use it though....gets a little sticky...

I wouldn't be comfortable leaving the lid off. When you open a jug, you get that sniff of the volatile products evaporating off. Maybe they don't contribute to burning rate, but I would be worried that the ultimate result would be that I was left with the same amount of bang product that now weighs less for its volume. That's probably OK if you toss charges, but if you weigh them like I do.....

Jerry Hensler and I believe that Larry Baggett did that on purpose. I don't know what happened , but they both kicked our A$$.

I'll check the weight next time I load....it's for a swift used for hunting so not like the critters will tell the dif. in velocity if it still keeps POI.

I would think the largest variable affecting your powder would be if the humidity experienced during those 2 days was either very high or very low.
Long term tests and the data provided by the head of ballistics at Norma suggests very dry conditions contribute to an increase in burn rate and high humidity results in the opposite. Don’t forget this is from long term tests, but it might be a factor.
If you have the same lot# of that powder in another jug, you could test it against the uncapped powder across a chronograph and decide if it’s a measurable difference.

Norma

The Norma loading book contains a chapter which addresses this.

nope...about 1lb left in the jug. Will pick more up at the next show. It was in the A/C for the 48-36 hours.

Just checked and I don't have a norma manual or powder??

Passes the sniff test....unless is changes POI, I'm not gonna worry about it or maybe sell it to Baggett:D:D:D

Hello John.Have you noticed with these 4 kg black plastic jugs that we get from ADI now, that the volatiles escape around the lid ? I tried screwing them down tighter but cant get them tight enough to stop smell before they jump a thread. This is even enough to concern me, so I double fold a piece of glad wrap over the top, then screw down lid. That stops it.
I would hate to think that this lid design has something to do with planed obsolescence.
