bullets side by side 10 shot group no vertical.contender g2 rifle,219zipper. what is going on? regards, ben

Usually, but not always, Contender accuracy problems result in vertical dispersion not horizontal. If you’ve eliminated the most obvious causes of wind drift, scope malfunction, and a loose or laterally binding lock-up when the action is closed….then you might want to peruse this site for your next steps in the troubleshooting process: http://www.bellmtcs.com/TOC.htm .

I’m too lazy to type a page or two of suggestions and don’t have enough info on your set-up, reloading practices, and exact target data to help more. Good Luck!

changed scope---loose stock cause the problem.thanks to all for the help.regards, ben

Contenders many times have a left hand twist. This causes movement to the erecter tube. I had a heavy recoil 35 caliber contender barrel that would only shoot 3" groups at 100 yards. I rotated the scope 90 degree CCW and the it started shooting 3/4" groups. The reason for a the problem is simple. A left hand twist makes the gun torque to the right. When the scope moves to the right, the erecter tube has to compress the leaf spring. On a right hand twist the erecter tube pushes against the adjustments under recoil. When you rotate the scope you go by the RUUL when adjusting the scope. RUUL simply means right is up, and up is left.

witchy stuff

the stock was loose but the scope may have been doing funny as you say. the thing is doing fine now-i think. don't want to say too much where it can hear me. regards, ben

If your bullets went from straight left to right then the most likely problem is "the wind".
