Also 308 Win with small primer pocket head stamped PALMA.

Al,

The discussions I've heard include small flash hole. I am still hoping you can get a response from someone who actually knows but I would be more than surprised if the flash hole is large than 0.062"

Wheee!! :D

That would be awesome.

Al,

Tom Whitaker reports the flashhole size as 0.059" and Palma team testing indicates an improvement in es and sd and a slight reduction in velocity compared to the LR primed Lapua case. Check it out at usrifleteams/lrforum.

Perfect!

Getting back velocity is child's play :) (or just leave it alone)

Improved ES and SD numbers are real gains.

Mmmm... not always. The loads some of us are running involve a rather full case (i.e. compressed) and there may not be room for another .2 or .3gr of powder without adjusting something else like neck tension. Heck, some folks I know use loads that I can't imagine how they get that much in the case without a tamping rod to begin with ;) As for leave it alone... as long as the accuracy is still there, it may be the best option - 20fps isn't going to matter as much on target as minimizing vertical dispersion.

Monte,

I have a plastic funnel with a 6" drop tube attached. 48 gr of Varget poured slowly from a scale pan through that funnel and drop tube is even with the neck/shoulder junction of a Lapua case fired in a Palma 95 chamber and re-sized in a Redding FL die. Dropped straight from a measure the same 48 gr comes within 3/32" of the top of the neck. Quitcherbitchin and get a drop tube.

It was good to visit at Butner.

Greg,

If I suddenly stop bitchin', someone better be checking for a pulse! :D

I've never gotten much benefit from drop tubes... now I have vibrated cases against the tumbler and gotten some noticeable settling that way... ;)

I'm sure it'll work out one way or another.

You coming out to Sacramento in March?

Monte

Monte,

I not sure that I can realistically make the trip but Nagel and I are talking about it. I've got a wad of Norma 7x64 and RWS 270 Win brass that I will use with either a straight 7x64 or maybe a 280 AI 0.050" short. As you know a "just for fun" 6BR will only take you so far and Sacramento might be the perfect baptism for a medium 7. It could come together! I hear its quite a party.

Then you don't know how to use a drop tube! ;)

I can go from overflowing the neck to below the neck with a proper drop.
