The way I learned in gunsmithing school 30yrs ago is to use a brass slotted-head screw chucked in a hand drill. Load 'er up with clover lapping compound and have at 'er.
Anneal a ball bearing. Its easier to control with fingers since it won't be flopping around. When one side begins to wear, just
move to the other side of the ball
Buy the Dave Mason crowning tool. Just about the best crowns you'll cut and you don't need a lathe!
(Flame suit on for all the smiths that will disagree....., but I've inspected these crown with a microscope and they are perfect in every way)
You can make a couple hundred dollars every Sunday morning at your local gun range and/or set up a "Muzzle Crown Day" with your local gun shop and rake in the cash!
