Finally used my unit today, out the window, in a snowstorm where I didn't want to set up my default chronos....... this thing is The Beans!

I'm sure it's been rated all over the innernet, I just haven't kept up. But as of today, I can state unequivocally that it works great shooting out the window of my warm range house into heavy, large flakes of snow. I only shot 100yds but I'm impressed.

My setup was/is 300WSM with a big brake, 24" bbl, unit set alongside the front rest using the 12" offset setting and I had zero malf's or skipped readings just clear, easy consistent pickups using no special shielding or fiddling about.

Will spend more time with it tomorrow.

They're the best thing going, imo. I will warn you that if you decide to use an external "USB battery" (recommended) - then remove the regular batteries first. That's a stupid thing to have to do, but you have to do it... Also, mine is 'deaf' except on the highest sensitivity setting, but I know I'm at least one firmware version behind.

They sure are faster and easier to set up, and here we don't have "chrono weather" very often...

Regarding "chrono weather" I've got two of mine shrouded for weather. One in a plastic barrel and one wrapped in visqueen, but yesterday I was just too friggin cozy to bother walking out into the snowbank, hence the Labradar......

I used a 2A 5VAC phone charger (with batteries removed)

gonna look into the charger bank as I hate badd'ries.

you got snow?

you got snow?

Nope, just normally crappy light. My Oehler seems somewhat immune (thought not as much so as the Labradar) but often not enough, or not good enough to get consistent good readings with an optical chrono.

Well we've got SNOW to the north of you........

Here's my setup, just cobbled into place in a very narrow window space.

Now, regarding the small optical units, I never use a Chrony in natural light. I've got one upstairs in the archery range under a 4' 4-bulb flourescent. The one in the plastic barrel has an appliance light over each eye, mounted in a light PVC framework and on the visqueen wrapped unit I built a lightweight wooden frame and mounted an appliance light again, directly above each pickup. They all work flawlessly and give VERY good readings.
