Key holeling???

when the bullet doesn't go through the target straight and make
a clean circular hole. it can turn sideways and make a hole that
looks like a slot or keyhole. that's not good.

The first answer

is correct, it is caused by the bullet wobbling and it doesn't hit straight and the paper flips it . The bullet wobbles or goes in a circle called yawing because for whatever reason, slow twist or some other factor it hasn't went to sleep as they say and is not spinning true. I have a .17 Rem that seems to exhibit this on a really hot day with berger bullets. So I use only Hornady bullets in it now. Max

i just ran across an old target the other day. a friend while shooting
a ruger single six pistol was shooting .22lr out of it turned out a .22
magnum cylinder. at 21 feet the bullets were completely sideways.
i thought it was strange because they use the same barrel with
both cylinders.
